Angelique Lafreniere

text

Angelique is a Toronto based artist. She obtained her BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in 2007. That same year Angelique with six other young Canadian artists, took part in an artist run centre called "The Collective 7" in Kensington Market.

Angelique's most recent motion paintings are designed as digital renderings of her most cherished childhood memories. While making these abstract works, Angelique plays with the combination of three principal components: motion, colour and form. Along with this important fundamental base, she explores the different dimensions of memory with the subtlety of light and shaded hues. The mechanics of the artistic process is very much a part of this modern, graphically based project. The films and conceptual ideas of Marcel Duchamp, Julie Mehretu, Fabian Marcaccio and especially that of William Kentridge and the Animatio of Oskar Fischinger are the examples, which continue to inspire the artist to develop visual communication to others, regarding these personal memories. ~
